On the road to Hel, along the peninsula, lies the small town of Kuźnica (population 600). It lies at a point where the land narrows the most, forming a pleasant little bay. The area is also renowned for its superb beaches and serves as a seaside resort in summer. On this site, next to this former Kashubian fishing village, stood a fortress (or rather bastion), Kazimierzowo. It was abandoned by the advancing Swedes in the 17th century, shortly after its construction. With global warming, sea levels are rising, threatening the small village.
