ONESTEEL WHYALLA STEELWORKS TOUR

Themed tours and activities

Around 1.2 million tonnes of crude steel are produced annually at Whyalla's OneSteel mills. Most of this steel is destined for the construction and rail transport industries. During your tour of the 1,000-hectare site, your guide will explain how the initial ore is transformed into over 90 different grades of steel. Depending on production schedules, you'll pass through the blast furnace, coke ovens and rolling mills.

WHYALLA MARITIME MUSEUM

Specialized museum

The Whyalla Maritime Museum is located at the Visitor Center. His centerpiece, HMAS Whyalla, present on the site, is a corvette that opera from 1942 to 1946. In 1947 until 1984, it was transformed, under the name of Rib, into a maintenance vessel of lighthouses and beacons. It was 56 m long and 730 t long, carrying 85 crew. Despite its name the museum presents a remarkable and one of the largest railway models in Australia (with a plot of 226 m). Exhibition on shipbuilding production. Botanical Garden.
