Sugar cane is the main employer in the region thanks to the several hundred hectares of plantations located between Lengwe National Park and the Mozambique border, along the M1 national road. The Nchalo Sports Club overlooking the Shire River is the only option to discover the plantations: there is also a restaurant, very decent rooms, a golf course and a swimming pool.
