Marietta is approximately 20 miles (32 km) north-west of Atlanta. An air base, the Dobbins Air Reserve Base, is located in the south of the city. It houses an aeronautical construction site (Lockheed Martin) opened in 1942 to build B -29 bombers. The plant employed more than 28 000 people during the Second World War and was responsible for the rapid development of the city. Near the battlefield of Kennesaw Mountain, Marietta is especially interesting for its Scarlett on the Square museum. The latter is part of the Gone with the Wind Trail. Most restaurants are located around the central square, Park Square.
