FORT DE SAINT-HÉRIBERT

On the heights of Wépion, the Fort of Saint-Héribert was one of the nine defense forts around Namur, built at the end of the 19th century. Built in non-reinforced concrete, this triangle of 300 meters on each side was supposed to resist to artillery attacks but it was bombed in 1914 and in 1940; it resisted only six days. Thereafter, the vegetation has regained its rights, so that an interesting and diverse fauna and flora have found refuge on this natural site of 11 ha. Since 2013, the site is being rehabilitated. Mini-museum 14-18 and 39-45 of 30 m².
