ESCAILLE NATURE RESERVE
The Escaille (51 ha) is built around the Orneau. It includes the ruins of a water mill and ponds. They took the place of ancient decanters of candy, the remnants of industrial activities which are traces of the 12 th century. Originally owned by the Benedictine monks of Gembloux, the buildings were reworked during the 17 th and 18 th centuries, while the mill was used until 1936. The site was completely abandoned then. The reserve owes its name to a disused quarry of ardoisiers shale. The soil is clay. Vegetation around the water plan consists of dry and wet wildfires, willow plantations, marsh areas with roselière and sources. 17 species of birds were identified there, making the main interest of the reserve. These include many migratory birds such as migrating, aquatic ovenbirds and inevitable ducks. Passereaux are also present in number.
