One of the most important squares in Antwerp where you can eat on a terrace or watch street performances, the statue of Rubens in the center
This old square was called Groen Kerhof (or Green Cemetery) in the 18th century, when the Austrian occupiers forbade burials within the city walls but allowed it here. It is now one of the important squares of Antwerp where you can have a drink, eat on the terrace or watch street performances. In the center, the statue of Rubens, which replaces an enormous crucifix since 1843, is enthroned. To the north is the cathedral and to the east is the former Grand Bazaar from 1920, now transformed into a hotel and shopping center.
