Le Steen is the 13th-century castle on the banks of the Scheldt. It's the city's oldest surviving structure (with a number of alterations over the years). An integral part of the old city walls, the Steen became a prison in the Middle Ages, before being enlarged under Charles Quint. Today, it houses the tourist office, a small bar and The Antwerp Story, a small museum dedicated to Antwerp's history, museums and heritage. It provides a very interesting and educational introduction to Antwerp.

Un imposant château au bord de l'Escaut. Mérite un détour lors d'une balade sur les quais du fleuve.

A small part of this castle through the ages since the 13th century. Stroll around this monument is very pleasant. The interior is occupied by the national museum of the marine.
