Square surrounded by terraces and cafes, one of the trendy places of Antwerp, houses the statue Schelde Vrij in the center of the traffic circle
This massive statue is unmistakable, in the centre of the roundabout and at the intersection of eight streets north of the Zuid. This 20 m high sculpture called 'Schelde Vrij' (the Free Scheldt) commemorates the agreement of 1863 between Belgium and the Netherlands to again allow free passage of ships in the direction of Antwerp. The god Neptune can be seen at the top of the work. This square, which has been completely renovated and paved, is surrounded by café terraces. It has been one of the trendiest places in Antwerp for the past ten years.
