Silifke is the largest city in the province of Mersin. The ancient Seleucia of Cilicia is located on the right bank of the Calycadnos (Göksu) in whose waters Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa drowned in 1190, during the Third Crusade. Its beaches, the port of Taşucu connecting Cyprus to Anatolia, its cultural and historical wealth make the city one of the most impressive tourist centers in the Eastern Mediterranean. Unfortunately, many buildings invade the coast. In the city you will see the medieval castle, the ruins of the ancient city and the museum that contains the artifacts from the excavations done in the area.
