Due to its volcanic activity, Lake Linow offers a fascinating natural spectacle, with its hue varying from dark green to red, and sometimes even intense blue. This phenomenon is due to the fluctuating chemical composition of its waters and the influences of light. Surrounded by the Lokon and Mahawu mountains, Lake Linow is renowned for its distinctive atmosphere, marked by a sulphurous odour reminiscent of rotten eggs. "Linow" comes from the Minahasa word for"gathering place of waters". The walk around the lake is magnificent, but swimming is not recommended, as the high concentration of sulfur poses health risks.
