The name means "hot springs", but there aren't any! Here you'll find warugas: stone tombs up to 3 m high, vestiges of the Minahasa civilization, which predates the arrival of missionaries. In these finely sculpted stone blocks, the body was installed in a seated position. The lids of these sarcophagi, in the form of 4-sloped roofs, are quite astonishing; some of them show men dressed in European style, with frock coats and shoes! These warugas were originally scattered throughout the wilderness, but were brought here by the Dutch in 1817. Other similar sites exist in Sawangan, Kema and Likupang.
