Vaavu Atoll, separated from Malé south by a 14 km wide pass (Fulidhoo Kandu), stretches over 55 km east and 42 km from north to south. It comprises two atolls: the large main atoll (Felidhoo) and, 4 km south, Vattaru, a tiny circular atoll 9 km in diameter housing only one inhabited island. In all, 18 islands are listed on the atoll, and only 5 of them are inhabited. Fulidhoo, Thinadhoo, Felidhoo, Keyodhoo and Rakeedhoo are all fishermen's islands, while two islands are devolved to tourism: . and Dhiggiri. It is the least populated atoll in the Maldives. Felidhoo is a real geographical marvel. This atoll has the form of a boot whose toe, the island of Fotteyo Bodufushi, is the most easterly point of the entire Maldivian archipelago. Moreover, the uninterrupted 55 km reef between the toe and the heel form the longest coral barrier in the Maldives. This atoll has been receiving tourists since 1975 and has always been one of the favorites of safari operators but remains very little commercialized, and especially by Italians. And yet! Felidhoo hosts fantastic dive sites, such as Fotteyo Kandu, which passes for many as the country's best site and one of the top five in the world! The reef on the east side is thus in excellent condition and also delights divers - who are lucky enough to meet hammers or grey sharks - than snorkeleurs.
