The situation in the north-east of Bugesera, where the Kagera River forms the Rwanda-Burundi border, is the same as to the west of this natural region: intractable marshes make the crossing of the border unthinkable. The only access doors outside this part of the country are therefore open to the East on Tanzania, specifically to the customs posts of Giteranyi and Kobero, both located in Muyinga province.Giteranyi, where a large number of refugees'returned'and displaced refugees are concentrated, is not a position indicated to win Tanzania. If the purpose of the trip is to enter that country, it is better to pass the customs to Kobero. But if the idea is to discover a wild and ill-known Burundi, that is the right track. There you go to Proximité lake and then to Lake Rweru (Paroisse parish) in landscapes that do not look like anything else in the country. You can also have a chance to see the dancers intore. At the end of the day you can reach Kobero 25 km south. In Kobero, the largest border crossing in Eastern Bugesera, less than 50 km from Ngara (Tanzania), the immigration formalities required can be easily completed. If you don't get out of the country, you can go back by an asphalt road (RN 6) to Muyinga, 28 km south. This is the route explored by the next part of the guide.
