Less than its neighbour Ngozi, Kayanza is the head of the most densely populated province in the country, prior to Ngozi (more than 370!/km 2 and up to 720!/km 2 in some places). It is an active city, which owes much of its animation to the coffee trade, one of the region's great specialities, and its strategic position on the road to Rwanda. However, since the link between Bujumbura and Kigali is now shorter by passing through Kirundo and Gasenyi, part of the traffic has been diverted and the city is slightly less bandwidth than ever. It is still very lively! The agglomeration is organized around the main road routes crossing it, four important national roads, at the crossing of the South-North and West-East corridors. Still very provincial, it is one of the main attractions of a very popular food market, especially over the weekend. There are also most of the facilities offered by the provincial administrative centres, with a hospital sector, retail shops and half-large, as well as many banks (BCB and Western Union service, Bancobu, Interbank Burundi, etc.).
