The Magwikhwe Dune, with its impressive dimensions, runs along the entire western section of the Savute.
The Magwikhwe Dune is easily visible to the traveller as he or she makes his or her way from Mababe to Savute. It is about 20 m high, 100 km long and 180 m wide. It runs along the entire western section of Savute. Very visible on satellite photos, it is the former shoreline of the vanished Mababe lake, as shown by the pebbles found at the base of the Gobatsaa hills. It is difficult to imagine the site once submerged by a large inland sea.
