Albury, with a population of 42,000, is located in the Riverina region, on the north bank of the Murray River. Located 550 km west of Sydney, it is closer to Melbourne, 310 km away, which can be reached via the Hume Hwy. Albury is twinned with Wodonga (Victoria), located on the other side of the river, with which it forms a conurbation of over 100,000 inhabitants. German settlers in the late 19th century introduced grapevines and cereal crops to the area. These crops allowed the development of the dairy industry, the creation of several flour mills and numerous wineries.
