Wangaratta is a town of 19,000 inhabitants on the Hume Freeway, 250 km northeast of Melbourne. It lies at the junction of the main route and the Great Alpine Road to two of Victoria's most famous ski resorts: Falls Creek and Mount Hotham. Wangaratta boasts a beautiful Anglican cathedral, consecrated in 1909. Every year, in October or November, the town hosts the Wangaratta Jazz & Blues Festival.
