Saint-Louis du Nord is a small, relatively well organized and lively small town. Little or no tourist, it is situated on the seafront, on the departmental route between Cap-Haïtien and Port-de-Paix. Most people go to Saint-Louis du Nord just because it's on the way to the Turtle Island… But this city and its surroundings are also worth a trip, if you like nature. It offers long walks in wooded mountains, unspoilt nature and beaches (Pointe des Icaques, Cap Rouge, Morne Wind). After several hours of walking, you can find beautiful views over the surrounding area and on the Turtle island.Haitians also come to Saint-Louis du Nord for its two mystical sites, among the most important of the country: La Vilokan, and Petite Sainte-Anne (which is located in Anse-à-Foleur, a pretty little town, little sister of Saint-Louis du Nord). The Vilokan is so well known, that any newly elected president is systematically visiting it at the beginning of the mandate. Don't go to it would be a misfortune, says… And the presidents seem to believe that.
