San Miguel de Velasco is a village of 12,000 souls located 37 km from San Ignacio de Velasco. Its magnificent church, built in 1721 by disciples of Padre Martin Schmid, is considered one of the most important of the Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos. You can climb up its bell tower and enjoy the view of its large interior patio and the main square. There is a small woodworking workshop where the indigenous people continue to practice their art, as well as a small ethno-folkloric museum that also houses the San Miguel music school. The main economic activity of the municipality is cattle and horse breeding.
