The small port of Wrangell is located on an island bearing the same name. With 2,400 inhabitants, this town is the gateway to the Stikine River. It owes its existence to the Tlingit Indians who had made it a base camp, because this site preserved from the harsh climate allowed an abundance of food. With the gold rush, many people understood the interest of settling there. Located between the sea and Mount Dewey, you have little chance of getting lost today with its two streets running parallel to the sea. The airport is 1 km away (free shuttle from the hotels). The Alaska Marine Highway ferry docks in the middle of town
