Located 48 km north of Córdoba, it is known for its estancia of the same name, classified by UNESCO and built in 1618. This estancia was characterized by its wine production (and its wine called golden tear). A great folklore festival takes place here for almost 10 days in early January: almost 200,000 people come to attend the Festival de Doma y Folklore de Jesús María, a celebration of gauchos, in the Doma stadium. Folkloric music and horseback riders are on the program. During the colonial period, the village developed mainly as a stopover town on the Camino Real route between the Atlantic and the mines of Upper Peru (Bolivia).
