Church featuring a central pillar decorated with a band of frescoes depicting the Passion cycle, from the Annunciation to the Last Judgement
Bornholm is famous for its round churches, of the 7 existing in Denmark, 4 are on the island. In 2 of them, Nylars and Østerlars, the upper part of the central pillar is decorated with a band of frescoes illustrating the Passion cycle, from the Annunciation to the Last Judgement. Built around 1160, this is probably the oldest on the island. One of its particularities: the bell tower is separated from the church. Two runic stones are visible under the porch and outside.
