Southeast of Dawson City, where the Klondike Highway crosses the Stewart River (hence the name Stewart Crossing), this hamlet is the start of the Silver Trail that will reach the community of Mayo, home of the First Nation of Nacho Nyak Dun. Here, at Stewart Crossing, there is little to be found except a gas station selling chips and soft drinks. The famous Silver Trail is a historic road created in the 1950's for silver mining that runs from the Klondike Highway at Stewart Crossing to the community of Mayo and on to the tiny mining hamlets of Elsa and Keno City.
