It is here that the coldest temperature in the Yukon was recorded: -60°C! Mayo is a village located on the Silver Trail, a highway connecting Stewart Crossing, Keno City and the ghost town of Elsa. The most beautiful part of this road starts just after turning onto Highway 11, at the Stewart Crossing bridge. There are great views of the Stewart River and the surrounding glaciers. A village with a mining history, Mayo is named after Alfred H. Mayo was named after Alfred H. Mayo, an American gold prospector who was one of the first to explore the area.
