The town was named after a shipment of coffee that washed up on a shipwreck in the late 1800s. Located at the mouth of the Nega River, it is not wedged between mountains like Port Saint John's. Coffee Bay is the most popular with young people and neo-hippies, there is nothing historic about this place. People come here for its beautiful beaches and especially for the party atmosphere in paradise. Every evening, djembes and other percussions resound on the beach, a sort of return to the 1970s with an eco-friendly twist. As everywhere along the Wild Coast, one comes there to practise activities, in particular surfing.
