The small town of Appomattox is located 88 miles west of Richmond and 22 miles east of the town of Lynchburg on Highway 460. The name of this city echoes in the spirit of the South like that of defeat during the war of Secession. Here we ended the confrontation between the Union and the Confederate states, when the North-Eastern General Robert E. Lee surrendered to his Northern counterpart, Ulysses S. Grant, on 9 April 1865, the surrender of his camp. The Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, in the north-east of the city, is the main attraction of any visit here.
