This historic national park encompasses the Sites and Jamestown sites, the 23-mile tourist route connecting these two sites (Colonial Parkway) via Williamsburg, and Cape Henry Memorial, near Virginia Beach. The latter is the assumed place of the landing of John Smith and his men (May 14, 1607) doubled from a imprenable point of view to Chesapeake Bay. It was in this bay that on September 5, 1781, the battle of Chesapeake Bay (or Battle of Caps in Virginia) was fought, which was crucial for the unfolding of the Battle of Yorktown (September 29 - October 19, 1781) which culminated in the proclamation of independence of the United States of America.
