The Colonial Parkway is a-mile tourist route that connects the historic triangle Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. Several million travellers use it every year. The construction of this three-lane flow axis in the early 1930 s was a challenge for its designers. The aim was to build a artery unifying culturally distinct sites by crossing several pristine natural environments. It took 26 years to reach the end of the project that was inaugurated in 1957. The central lane is used only to exceed. The speed is limited to 45 miles per hour.
