Hope is a charming village 1h45 from Anchorage by car, on the north coast of the Kenai Peninsula, in a fjord. You have to turn off the Seward Highway onto the Hope Highway, a 17-mile dead-end road. The town has its origins in the gold rush when a camp was built in 1896 near Ressurection Creek. It was named after one of the gold seekers who landed here in search of those rare and precious nuggets, Percy Hope. It is a bit of this atmosphere that we find in these restored wooden houses, scattered among the trees that encircle the area. A name that many thought predestined before discovering the harsh reality. A stopover for the night, or a true discovery for a day hike, Hope is not to be overlooked when visiting the Kenai Peninsula.
