The city, located in the south of the delta region and on the edge of the Yazoo River, has long thrived on the export of cotton to Saint Louis and New Orleans. It was hit hard by the defeat of Confederation in 1865, but the arrival of the railway allowed it to continue exporting cotton until it was not so long ago.Today it is a small, quiet town, almost too much, or the time seems to have stopped. However, it was the scene of extremely violent tensions during the struggle for civil rights. The Ku Klux Klan and the defenders of white supremacy have long been powerful, and even today community relations do not seem really innocuous.Greenwood is known as the alleged place of death of Robert Johnson (1911-1938). Many mysteries surround the death of this icon of the blues. According to one of the versions on the circumstances of his death, he was reportedly poisoned at la by a jealous husband.
