SYNAGOGUE DE DOBOJ

This beautiful building with ochre walls and a scalloped gable (Sinagoga u Doboju/Синагога у Добоју) was erected on the site of the old synagogue (1874) destroyed in 1942. It houses a prayer hall, the Jewish cultural center Bejt Šalom, a music school as well as a souvenir store. Doboj is one of the last six Jewish communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a population of about 50. In the courtyard are the remains of the old synagogue and a plaque with the names of 89 Jews from Doboj who were murdered in 1941-1942.
