Monuments to visit Portlaoise

Limestone rock where the king of Leinster, Dermot macmurrough, built a castle in the twelfth century. The remains (towers, walls and ruins in ruins) blend and integrate into the flourished vegetation. In clear weather, the view extends to 80 km.

Beautiful remains in neoclassical style, with a large dome, designed in 1790 by James Gandon (the architect of the Custom House in Dublin), for the Earl of Portarlington. A guide will accompany you in the main pieces, well restored. The large gardens offer a pleasant walk, along with rhododendrons, classical statues and a lake.
