This unique park covers an area of 1,260 km² and is considered one of the world's oldest and most beautiful tropical rainforests. Created in 1986, the national park is located between the towns of Eyumojock and Mundemba. The richness of its flora and fauna is largely due to the fact that the Korup site has survived the Ice Age. Today, it resembles a museum over 60 million years old. Scientific studies have identified over 400 species of trees and numerous medicinal plants. As for the fauna, there are over 300 species of birds in the park and a further 100 in the surrounding areas, 174 reptiles and amphibians and 140 species of fish.Korup National Park is a natural wildlife reserve where a few elephants, buffalo, antelopes, leopards and chimpanzees can still be found. Visitors usually depart from Douala and reach Mundemba via Kumba, the river port of Ekondo Titi and Ekondo Nane (where you can discover a vast field of round stones) over a distance of 250 km, 115 of which are unpaved (between Kumba and Mundemba). Road conditions make the journey a little more difficult, but Korup can also be reached by boat from Limbé, crossing Rio del Rey to reach the Ndian River. One of the must-see experiences in Korup park is the Mana Suspension Bridge, an immense bridge suspended over a stream, offering a breathtaking view of the canopy. However, those prone to vertigo should refrain. Visitors are also advised to make sure they are well equipped before setting off on their excursion (closed shoes, drinking water, mosquito repellent, etc.). Entrance fees are paid to the park authorities, who also provide the services of on-site guides. Shelters are available for those wishing to spend the night and immerse themselves further in the lush forest. Comforts are very basic, reflecting the bareness of this natural, untamed site.
