A jewel. This open-air village-museum, a pioneer of its kind, has been open to the public since 1964. This architectural and ethnographic complex, located 8 km from Gabrovo, is one of the most visited in the country. On 6 ha, it testifies of the village life during the Bulgarian National Revival and of its craft activities. The small village, in its green valley, aligns its houses with green or blue facades, its shops and its craft workshops. A communist achievement, Etara is the work of the patriot Lazar Donkov.
