Welcome to New Ontario! Developed as early as the 1870s, this corner of the country became the nerve centre of Ontario's French-speaking community in the 1970s. In fact, these Franco-Ontarians have their own flag, which was first raised at the University of Sudbury in 1975 before being officially recognized by the Legislative Assembly in 2001. Literature, theatre, music, and the flag have shone there... and it continues to do so! This dynamic city has established itself as one of the largest Francophone centres outside Quebec. It is also home to attractions such as Science North (science centre) and Dynamic Earth (underground guided tour).
