ST. MAURICE WILDLIFE RESERVE
The wildlife reserve offers excellent recreational potential for anglers and sport hunters in Trois-Rives.
Réserve faunique du Saint-Maurice (784 km²) is a wild, natural haven dotted with numerous waterways (245 lakes and a dozen rivers) teeming with aquatic and terrestrial wildlife. Created in 1963, it was once a territory reserved for hunting and fishing clubs as early as 1886. It offers excellent recreational potential for anglers and sport hunters.
There is only one reception station, open from mid-May to early November: Matawin, on the right bank of the Saint-Maurice River, 2 km south of the bridge over the river (passage charged by the Corporation du Pont Mékinac).
Points of interest: Dunbar Falls, sandy shores of Lac Normand. Truly unspoiled nature for outdoor enthusiasts.
Wildlife: moose, black bear, hare and over a hundred species of birds, including ruffed grouse, heron and loon.
Lodging: cabins, Horizon cabins, rustic camps, ready-to-camp tents, camping.
Equipment rentals: watercraft, motors, personal flotation devices (included with watercraft rentals), bait sales, access rights and hunting and fishing licenses. Convenience store at Lac Normand.
Activities: water sports, canoe-camping (22 km circuit), moose and bear hunting, small-game hunting (by the day and with accommodation), wildlife observation, forest gathering, wading, fishing by the day or with accommodation, cycling, hiking (over 40 km).
