Rising 1,175 metres above sea level, this limestone mountain is the highest point in the state of Kedah. The only mountain peak in the region, the mountain was an island in ancient times. It served as a landmark for early traders and navigators. A peaceful park and a winding 13 km road lead up to the summit. From the summit, there is a superb view of rice paddies, the Langkawi archipelago and Penang.From Alor Setar, bus 2, which runs to Sungai Petani, passes the parking lot at the entrance to Gunung Jerai Park. Ask the driver to mark the stop.
