This unassuming town is the port of embarkation for Sipadan. There's no reason to spend too long here, except to organize your stay in the islands. However, it is advisable to plan ahead. Semporna is served by Tawau airport, 28 km away, with daily flights to Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Kuala Lumpur. Air Asia and MASWings are the main carriers. Most hotels and diving centers organize airport transfers. Cabs to the city center cost RM100.Buses to and from KK (10-hour journey), Sandakan (6h) and Lahad Datu (2h) run frequently.
