Twice as large as St. Thomas, St. Croix is considered the "Jardin des Antilles" because of its impressive tropical forests and steep mountains. Visitors go for walks, the marine sanctuary and… rum distilleries! Sugar plantations also visit, offering the opportunity to look at the colonial history of the island. St. Croix, unlike St. Thomas, does not live in tourism but at its oil refinery. The island is thus preserved from an invasion of hotels and tourist infrastructure. It houses The Caribbean Dance Company, a company dedicated to preserving the musical traditions of the archipelago. It organizes performance regularly, highlighting the African and Indian roots of the islands.
