Located 46 km south of San Luis Potosí, the small village of Santa Maria del Rio is aimed at travellers attracted by rural tourism. The first visit can begin with the main square, around which stand beautiful religious and civil buildings, such as the world famous Escuela del Rebozo. The other speciality of the village is the campechanas, long biscuits. The last attraction is the marquetry: the village is known for producing small boxes of five different woods. For a spectacular view of Santa María, the best thing to do is to climb to the top of Cerro del Original.
