Located in the Town Clock of the old rice market, the Rice Museum is an emblematic symbol of Georgetown and the entire county. It recounts the history of a society dependent on rice cultivation: in 1750, Georgetown is the centre of rice production in the British colonies. From 1840, Georgetown County produced half of all U.S. domestic rice production! The 1850 s are the most profitable for growers in the region. This museum explains this story made possible by slave labour.
