Campbeltown is the largest town on the southern tip of the Kintyre Peninsula. In the 19th century, it was a vibrant fishing port and home to some 30 world-renowned distilleries. It was known as the whiskey capital of the world, but American Prohibition and the Great Depression brought its success to a screeching halt. Visitors come to enjoy the beautiful rolling countryside and endless coastline. The more adventurous can walk to Davaar Island, where a painting of Christ was found in 1887 in one of the caves. Don't miss the small villages of Machrihanish and Southend.
