PA-HAY-OKEE LOOKOUT TOWER
Short trail across the river of grass with a view of the Shark River Slough, animals like deer in the vicinity
The name Pa-Hay-Okee (literally river of grass) was given by the Seminole Miccosukee Indians to the marshes that make up the Everglades. The short, 260-metre-long trail crosses this "river of grass" and offers panoramic views of the Shark River Slough, whose waters flow calmly through the mangrove transition zone before emptying into the Gulf of Mexico. In terms of wildlife, you may be lucky enough to spot a hawk or a deer, or come across an alligator on the trail leading to the panorama.
