Some 45,000 participants, including 5,000 military personnel, gather in Nijmegen to walk between 30 and 50 kilometers each day for four consecutive days. The route is a star-shaped circuit around the city. The Nijmegen Four-Day Market is listed as part of the Netherlands' intangible cultural heritage. Participants come from all over the world to take part in this demanding walk. The event's slogan is "the Walk of the World".
