South of Bayfield, on the shores of Lake Superior, Ashland, like many other towns in the region, was successively under French, Spanish and English rule... The visit of its historical center is quite interesting. Its brick and stone houses are well preserved and the city has the largest pontoon bridge in the world. You can't miss it, it's the big black structure that goes into the lake. Located on Chequamegon Bay, Ashland is also close to Copper Falls State Park (30 minutes by car) and at the entrance of several protected areas
