The Crater Lake National Park is perhaps one of the most amazing parks in the United States. The huge lake that occupies the centre of the crater, positioned almost all year in a écrin and whose waters, of an unusual depth, are almost black blue, is of rare beauty. The road that bypasses it allows you to discover impressive volcanic landscapes. Within the park, pine forests are the refuge of many wild animals: bear, elk, red foxes of Cascades, coyotes and various birds. Nothing prepares for the show that is present. All senses are sought: The contact is simply breathtaking and physically intense. This is an essential site.Crater Lake (56 km ²) is in fact the pebble (cauldron) filled with water from Mount Mazama, which is now extinct, which once reached a height of 3 650 m. The rounded crown, dissolved following a violent eruption, effrondée under its own weight, some 6 000 years ago, forming an almost round-round, steep-edge bowl of 11. km wide and 1 200 m deep. In subsequent eruptions, a smaller volcanic cone - Island Wizard - emerged in the crater. When activity decreased 1 000 to 2 000 years ago, the melting and rain water gradually filled the crater, forming the deepest lake in the United States (589 m). Obviously, the lake did not contain aquatic fauna. It was stocked with trout and different salmonids that were not repeated because of the poverty of aquatic vegetation.
