With some 55,920 ha, it is the largest and greenest (91% forest) of all Lithuanian parks. Created in 1991 to preserve the country's historical heritage (with its villages and monuments), it covers the southern part of the country, from Vilnius to Druskininkai. The vast pine forests of Dzūkija are known for their abundance of berries and mushrooms, which sometimes supplement the income of local residents. Among the many wild animals that inhabit the park are rare eagles. From an ethnographic point of view, this is undoubtedly the most interesting and complete park in Lithuania.
