Circuit du fer de Dompierre à La Ferrière-aux-Etangs: a remarkable journey through Orléans' mining past.
Take a tour of eight remarkable sites, between 7 and 10 kilometers in length, and immerse yourself in Orléans' mining past, from the 19th to the end of the 20th century. These include the Butte Rouge furnaces at Dompierre on the D21, which processed iron ore from nearby underground galleries, the more recent furnaces at La Haie and the two workers' housing estates at La Ferrière-aux-Etangs (cité de La Haie and cité du Gué-plat). The mine floor and the central Pralon shaft (closed to the public) were the exit from the mine.
