Inaugurated in 1865, this brick, iron and cast-iron market hall was designed by architect Louis-Michel Boltz. A market was held here, hence its position on the banks of the Lauch, making it easy for market gardeners to unload their produce from their boats. In the south-west corner of the building, a fountain sculpted by Auguste Bartholdi in 1869 depicts a young winegrower drinking from a barrel. For the past 15 years, the Marché Couvert has been home to some twenty traders: butcher, baker, cheesemonger, fishmonger, greengrocer, pastry chef, caterer, florist...
